Ballet

Ballet is recommended to all dancers in order to become familiar with, and develop, fundamental skills to properly execute all other styles of dance. Students in these classes will be introduced to the art of classical ballet including barre, centre and stretch exercises. Students will focus on the proper use of turnout, body alignment, breathing, balance, turns, leaps and coordination.  As students progress through the available levels of this style, they will be taught how to properly demonstrate more complex and technical combinations, execute clean technique and develop stage presence, while continuing to develop their knowledge and use of classical ballet terminology.

Introductory Dance

This class is designed to stress natural yet controlled movement through basic stretches, combinations, and rhythmic sounds and counts used in all styles of dance. The goal for the students in this level will be to execute basic beginner counts, while performing basic beginner technique, progressive centre movement, and rhythmic beats. These classes will prepare students for basic beginner choreography, allowing them to recognize the beats in the music while executing steps and the use of basic dance terminology.

Tap

These classes will focus on tap technique, balance and rhythm, with an emphasis on progressive centre movement, coordination, proper technique, and stage presence. As students progress through the available levels of this style, they will learn to properly demonstrate complex rhythmic sounds through music appreciation.

Acrobatics Dance

Acrobatic dance is a style that blends classic dance technique with acrobatic or gymnastic-like elements. This class will focus heavily on conditioning, flexibility, strength and balance, as these are the core elements necessary to properly execute the tricks learned in this technique. Students in this class will learn how to smoothly transition between acrobatic and dance movements, focusing on technique learned in ballet, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance styles.

Contemporary

This dance style is closely related to modern, ballet and jazz because of their similarities in technique and floor work. Students in this style will learn controlled body movements, contract-release, fall and recovery, improvisation, and unpredictable changes in rhythm, speed and direction. Students will also learn how to incorporate elements of several diverse dance styles in interpretive choreography and combinations.

Jazz/Hip-hop

These classes stress the importance of proper technique and body alignment while executing basic, intermediate and advanced movement including leaps, jumps and turns. These classes will focus on basic-advanced stretches, combinations, conditioning and isolations for strength, coordination, and flexibility. Students will practice progressive centre movement and the use of proper weight placement, balance, and posture.
